Elsa y Fred
This cosy spot in the popular El Born neighbourhood of Barcelona is perfect for any time of day.
Elsa y Fred is a well hidden treasure in El Born. Not many people wander of to this street, but the local neighbours of this area sure now how to find this popular bar.
They state they are a ‘ gastrobar’, being inbetween bar and restaurant and definitely offering a more gastronomic version of the classic dishes you tend to find in Barcelona. Yes they serve patatas bravas, pan con tomate or a nice burger, but slightly more refined, and all for a fair price!
I love this place because the interior feels like entering a warm and comfy living room, with the locals joining in. It is perfect for any time of day and any kind of occasion. Whether it is a brunch date, dinner with your parents or catching up with friends over lunch; the cosy design makes it suitable for all.
I would especially recommend the brunch. The brunch menu in the weekend is very extensive. Scrambled or poached eggs, pancakes and all in different varieties. I have tried many dishes already; all super tasty. Brunch has slipped a bit to the hipster side in Barcelona, but Elsa y Fred remained down to earth and although you may find an international mix of people inside, it has a very local feel to it.
The service is always very friendly and your food comes with a smile from the staff who are more than happy to recommend their favourite dishes to you. In the weekend I tend to get so comfortable, I could easily spend half my Sunday there! So sit back, relax and enjoy the delicious food and great ambiance at Elsa y Fred.
