The creative crowd of Barcelona comes together on this amazing terrace in the heart of Raval!
I know on this blog I speak about many favourites, but La Monroe is always one of the first I mention when somebody asks where to go for a beer on a terrace. Because the terrace of this bar is simply amazing. It’s big, there’s a lot of tables, always sunny but covered in case it rains and it has an amazing view on the lively locals of the Raval neighbourhood.
The lower part of Raval is often mentioned as the dodgy end. But that makes the people you see pass by on the square definitely colourful and from all walks of life! The crowd that joins you at La Monroe itself is a great mix of local Raval neighbours, hipsters, creatives and just the down to earth Catalans. Great vibes, that’s for sure and the lovely staff surely contributes to that. Good service is rare in this town, but La Monroe never disappoints; the staff always smiles.
The bar has a wide glass facade and inside the floor is made of the same cobble stones as the terrace. This makes sure that even if you are inside, you still feel like you are part of the vibrant life going on at the square.
When you pass by make sure you grab a bite to eat. All delicious, but the main reason my friends and I stop by here so often; they serve the best nachos in town…
La Monroe is the bar of Barcelona’s Filmoteca, the cities film library with often great classic films screening in their original language so if you are into cinema, it’s definitely worth to check their program.
